NextNow will attend the 2027 CommerceNext Growth Show, scheduled for June 8 and 9 at the North Javits Center in New York City.
The annual conference brings together retail, direct-to-consumer, ecommerce, marketing and technology leaders. The full 2027 agenda and speaker roster have not yet been announced, so this preview separates what is confirmed from the questions NextNow plans to bring into the room.
CommerceNext’s official venue page confirms the dates and the move to North Javits. As the program develops, we will update our coverage with specific sessions and speakers.
A useful distance from the current planning cycle
By June 2027, many of the strategies companies are approving now will have encountered customers, budgets and operational constraints. That timing makes CommerceNext useful as more than a showcase for new technology.
Retailers and brands should be able to compare what they intended to do with what actually happened: which AI projects changed the customer experience, which acquisition strategies held up, where margins limited growth and which organizational changes became permanent.
NextNow will look for evidence behind those decisions.
1. The economics of ecommerce growth
Digital growth is no longer evaluated only through traffic and conversion. Acquisition cost, discounting, returns, fulfillment, retention and contribution margin determine whether the revenue is valuable.
At CommerceNext, we will ask how companies are balancing demand creation with profitability. Which channels can still scale? How are brands evaluating promotions and free-shipping expectations? What customer behaviors justify a higher acquisition cost—and which merely produce a short-lived sales lift?
The strongest examples will connect marketing performance to the economics recorded by finance rather than treating each platform’s attribution report as the final answer.
2. Where AI has changed the shopping journey
AI is moving into product discovery, recommendations, service, merchandising, creative production and internal operations. By the time CommerceNext 2027 begins, more businesses should have enough operating history to distinguish a compelling trial from a dependable system.
We will be watching for changes in how customers find and compare products, particularly when an AI assistant mediates the interaction. If discovery occurs outside a retailer’s site, brands may need to provide more structured product information, clearer evidence and a stronger reason for a customer—or an agent acting for one—to choose them.
Inside the company, we will ask which workflows have been redesigned, how employees intervene and what leaders are measuring beyond time saved.
3. Loyalty after the transaction
Commerce teams have traditionally devoted enormous attention to the path toward purchase. The post-purchase experience may be just as important to durable growth.
Delivery communication, returns, service, product education and replenishment determine whether the customer relationship continues after checkout. Those moments are operational, but they also shape brand perception and the economics of retention.
NextNow will look for companies treating loyalty as a connected experience rather than a points program. The important signals will include repeat behavior, service effort, customer value and the ability to recognize a customer consistently across channels.
4. Whether omnichannel systems are becoming coherent
Customers move between stores, mobile sites, social platforms, marketplaces and service channels without adopting the company’s internal boundaries. Retail technology stacks often remain divided by department.
The 2026 CommerceNext agenda emphasized ecommerce, omnichannel, loyalty, customer acquisition, AI and leadership. The conference currently notes that the 2027 program is still forthcoming.
When it arrives, we will look beyond promises of seamless experience. Can an employee see the same inventory and customer context the shopper sees? Do promotions, returns and service policies remain understandable across channels? Which platform is the authoritative record when systems disagree?
Coherence is less visible than a new interface, but it is what allows the interface to keep its promise.
5. Retail media and the demand for better measurement
Retail media connects advertising, audience data and commerce, but its expansion has created a harder measurement problem for brands operating across multiple networks.
NextNow will track how retailers, advertisers and technology providers address incrementality, cross-network comparison and data access. We will also ask how ad revenue is balanced with customer experience and merchant priorities.
The market does not need another dashboard that assigns more credit. It needs methods that help a business decide where the next dollar is likely to create profitable demand.
6. The organization behind the strategy
Many commerce initiatives depend on marketing, product, data, technology, operations and service acting as one system. The organization chart does not always support that reality.
We will listen for changes in roles, decision rights and budget ownership. Who owns the entire customer journey? Who decides when an AI pilot becomes infrastructure? How are brand standards translated into product behavior? Which executive is accountable when the customer experiences a failure between departments?
These questions may receive less attention than a product launch, but they often determine whether the strategy survives implementation.
What NextNow plans to report
NextNow’s CommerceNext coverage will focus on a small number of stories that reveal how retail and ecommerce leaders are actually operating. We will prioritize:
- Strategies supported by measurable customer or financial outcomes
- Technologies that have moved beyond demonstration
- Honest accounts of what did not work or had to change
- Signals affecting 2027 and 2028 planning
- Practical implications for brands and operators outside the conference
We will also watch for the conversations taking place between formal sessions. Conferences can be most useful when prepared talking points give way to the constraints leaders are trying to solve together.
What is confirmed
The CommerceNext Growth Show will take place June 8–9, 2027, at the North Javits Center, 445 11th Ave. in New York City. CommerceNext says the event is designed for senior leaders across retail, DTC, ecommerce, marketing and technology.
The 2027 agenda is still in development. NextNow will update this preview when speakers and sessions are announced—and will report from New York when the conference begins.
