Sony Pictures Television launched a free, ad-supported television destination on PlayStation 5 in the United States on Aug. 31, 2026, placing more than 100 live channels and a growing on-demand library directly inside the console interface.

The service includes programming from Sony and outside partners spanning entertainment, news, sports, reality and anime. Sony said the offering will expand to Canada and additional markets and is scheduled to reach Bravia televisions later in the year.

The console becomes a connected-TV distribution surface

PlayStation has long served as more than a game machine, but the new Live TV destination makes video distribution a native part of the platform. Users do not need a separate subscription, and the service is designed to be available from the PS5 media experience.

The lineup includes channels and programming from ABC News, ESPN, Fox, NBCUniversal, the NFL, Lionsgate, AMC, A+E, NASCAR and UFC, along with Sony properties and dedicated channels for selected franchises. Publica and PubMatic are supporting the advertising technology.

For content owners, the appeal is incremental reach on hardware already connected to the television. For Sony, the service creates more time spent inside its environment and another way to monetize entertainment beyond game sales and paid subscriptions.

Authenticated audiences raise the advertising value

A console audience is particularly interesting to marketers because PlayStation users are signed into a persistent platform with established entertainment behaviors. Sony can offer advertisers access to viewers who may be difficult to reach through traditional linear television.

The strategic opportunity is not simply adding another bundle of free channels. It is connecting programming, discovery and advertising within devices Sony controls. Expanding the product to Bravia televisions would broaden that reach beyond console owners while preserving the same free, ad-supported model.

Execution will determine whether the destination becomes a habit. Channel quality, navigation, ad load and privacy expectations will shape whether users see it as useful programming or interface clutter. If Sony gets that balance right, the PS5 can become a meaningful FAST platform—and a reminder that the next television distributor may already be sitting beneath the screen.
