Sony Group raised its full-year profit forecast on Nov. 5, 2026, after stronger games and film earnings lifted its July-September results. The report shows entertainment businesses contributing more profit even as PlayStation 5 hardware shipments declined.

Rapid News Brief — Sony now forecasts net income attributable to shareholders of 1.33 trillion yen for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, up from its July forecast of 1.21 trillion yen. The revision advances the questions in NextNow’s earlier earnings preview; it is guidance, not a completed full-year result.

Quarterly growth needs a consistent comparison

Sony’s earnings presentation puts quarterly sales at 3.4294 trillion yen, up 10%, and operating income at 622.3 billion yen, up 45%. Net income attributable to shareholders was 449.6 billion yen, a 44% increase using the company’s continuing-operations comparison.

That comparison excludes financial services from the prior-year net-income figure following Sony Financial Group’s partial spinoff. The financial statements distinguish the three-month results from the six-month totals; the two periods should not be combined.

Games and pictures supply the larger gains

Game & Network Services operating income rose to 220.1 billion yen from 120.4 billion yen. Sony cited network services, first-party software and the absence of prior-year charges, including a Bungie impairment. The improvement was not evidence of higher console unit sales.

The supplemental figures show PS5 hardware shipments of 2.6 million units, down from 4 million. Sony reports those units on a sell-in basis, rather than as purchases by individual consumers.

Pictures operating income increased to 92.6 billion yen from 13.9 billion yen. Sony attributed higher theatrical revenue primarily to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, whose contribution also featured in The Associated Press’s report.

The forecast remains separate from reported earnings

In its CFO presentation transcript, Sony raised full-year sales guidance to 13 trillion yen and operating-income guidance to 1.87 trillion yen. Those projections cover the entire fiscal year, not just the quarter released Nov. 5.

The business distinction is between growth in the entertainment portfolio’s profit contribution and growth in hardware volumes. Sony’s results show those measures can move in different directions; the new outlook does not guarantee the remaining quarters’ performance.
