Shopping has always had an entertainment layer. Department stores created spectacle. Catalogs built aspirational worlds. Television shopping turned a product demonstration into a live program. Social video brought that combination into a personalized feed.
The next version is taking shape across streaming, creators and AI assistants. Entertainment is no longer merely a place where a brand buys attention before sending a customer somewhere else. Discovery, recommendation and checkout are becoming part of the experience itself.
Disney and TikTok announced a program that will bring selected creator videos into Disney+’s vertical video feed. Shopify is making products and checkout available inside AI conversations through its agentic commerce infrastructure. Amazon says its Rufus shopping assistant was used by more than 300 million customers in 2025 and is being brought together with Alexa for Shopping.
These are different businesses, but they are moving toward the same consumer behavior: people discover what to buy while doing something that does not feel like shopping.
The funnel begins with culture
A customer may first encounter a product in a backstage clip, a home tour, a recipe, a film discussion or an answer from an assistant. The product is meaningful because it is attached to a story or goal.
That makes cultural context part of commerce infrastructure. A brand needs more than a product listing. It needs images, language, creator relationships and evidence that help the product make sense in the moment of discovery.
Traditional product pages were designed for a shopper who had already decided to browse. Embedded commerce must serve a person whose attention belongs to something else.
Entertainment changes the role of creative
When the shopping opportunity sits inside content, creative cannot be separated neatly from conversion. A video may build affection, explain use and trigger a purchase in the same experience. The strongest work will not interrupt the entertainment with an unrelated sales message. It will make the product relevant to the story.
That raises the value of editorial judgment. Not every trend fits every brand. A forced cultural reference can damage trust faster than a conventional advertisement. Companies need people who understand the audience and can decide when participation feels additive rather than extractive.
AI makes the experience conversational
Agentic shopping adds another layer. A customer can ask for a recommendation based on occasion, budget, values or compatibility. The assistant can compare products and, with permission, move toward purchase.
For brands, this means product data must carry the story into a machine-readable environment. Materials, fit, origin, care, warranty and use cases need to be specific. An assistant cannot recommend confidently when the product is described only through mood.
Measurement will have to follow the journey
Embedded commerce makes last-click attribution less credible. A creator video may introduce the product, an AI assistant may answer questions and a platform may complete checkout. Each participant will want credit.
Brands should measure stages: qualified exposure, product consideration, recommendation, cart creation and purchase. They should also preserve the ability to understand whether a recommendation was organic, sponsored or influenced by a platform relationship.
The store does not disappear
Entertainment-led and agentic discovery will not eliminate brand sites, stores or conventional search. Customers still need a place to verify trust, understand the company and receive service after purchase.
The change is that the store may no longer be the beginning of the journey. Commerce is moving into the places where attention already exists. Brands that treat those places only as advertising inventory will miss the larger opportunity: to make the act of discovery useful, culturally aware and immediately actionable.
That requires commerce, editorial and product teams to plan together instead of handing the customer from one disconnected channel to the next.
