News Corp reported Nov. 4 that Dow Jones revenue rose 8% in its fiscal first quarter while News Media revenue fell, showing divergent performance across the publisher’s news and information businesses.

The quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026. Dow Jones posted revenue of $630 million and Segment EBITDA of $160 million, up 11% from a year earlier. News Media revenue fell 1% to $540 million, while Segment EBITDA dropped 40% to $18 million, the company said.

Subscriptions and specialist information expand

At Dow Jones, circulation and subscription revenue increased 7%, supported by higher circulation, licensing and professional-information revenue. Digital advertising revenue grew 12%.

The Wall Street Journal averaged 4.663 million digital-only subscriptions during the quarter, an 11% increase that News Corp attributed to growth in enterprise news subscriptions. These are quarterly average subscriptions, not a count of unique people or subscriptions at quarter-end.

Risk & Compliance revenue increased 11% to $104 million, and Dow Jones Energy revenue grew 8% to $79 million. Digital revenue accounted for 85% of the division’s total, compared with 84% a year earlier.

News Corp said higher employee costs and the timing of marketing spending partly offset Dow Jones’ revenue gains in its Segment EBITDA result.

Print pressure weighs on News Media

News Media includes News Corp’s Australian and U.K. newspaper operations and the New York Post. The company attributed its revenue decline primarily to lower other revenue and print advertising, partly offset by favorable currency movements.

Advertising revenue fell 2%. Circulation and subscription revenue rose 3%, with currency, higher prices and licensing revenue offsetting declines in print volume. Digital revenue represented 41% of the segment’s total, up from 38%.

News Corp said lower revenue drove the division’s decline in Segment EBITDA. That operating measure excludes items including depreciation, restructuring charges and income taxes; it is not net income.

The group result includes a currency lift

Across News Corp, revenue increased 6% to $2.281 billion, including a $43 million benefit from foreign-exchange movements. Digital real estate services and book publishing also contributed to revenue growth.
