Silicon Motion’s Oct. 29, 2026, results showed third-quarter revenue rising 24% from the previous quarter to $560.2 million, as storage products for automotive, enterprise and AI applications offset a sequential decline in mobile controllers.
Rapid News Brief — Sales for the quarter ended Sept. 30 were up 131% from a year earlier. The figures underscore a changing product mix at the flash-controller supplier, rather than equivalent growth across every category.
Storage demand moves at different speeds
The company’s release put sequential SSD-controller sales growth at 20% to 25%. Ferri and boot-drive solutions increased 75% to 80%, while eMMC and UFS controllers declined 10% to 15% from the second quarter. Mobile-controller sales nevertheless remained above their year-earlier level.
In the earnings-call transcript published by Investing.com, executives described a shift toward automotive, edge and enterprise products. Management said higher memory costs were pressuring consumer device makers while enterprise and Ferri customers placed greater emphasis on securing supply. That demand interpretation is the company’s assessment.
Operating profit and net income diverge
GAAP operating income rose to $162.6 million from $101.1 million in the second quarter. Net income, however, fell to $65.3 million from $136.1 million. The income statement included a $78 million investment loss, compared with a $74.7 million gain in the preceding quarter.
Non-GAAP earnings were $4.35 per diluted American depositary share, compared with $1.91 under GAAP. Adjustments include investment gains and losses and stock-based compensation; the measures should not be substituted for one another.
Executives said on the call that Silicon Motion had secured 2027 wafer capacity with TSMC, along with test, assembly and substrate capacity. They also outlined future product milestones, including sampling a next-generation PCIe 6 MonTitan controller in the first quarter of 2027. Those plans are not completed production shipments.
Management forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $588 million to $616 million. For technology buyers, the immediate implication is a supplier directing resources toward different storage markets—not proof that consumer-device supply constraints have disappeared.
