Katalyst announced its acquisition of Bluetowne on Oct. 26, expanding the managed IT provider’s Charleston-area presence and adding customers in architecture, engineering, construction and renewable energy.

Bluetowne is based in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Katalyst, which is backed by e4n Group, did not disclose a purchase price in its announcement.

A second acquisition

Katalyst said the transaction follows its July acquisition of Layer27 and its partnership with e4n in May. Bluetowne CEO Eric Hartley will join Katalyst to help develop strategic services and industry-specific practices, according to the release.

The company said Bluetowne customers would continue working with their existing team. That is the buyer’s stated continuity plan, not a guarantee that every contract or service arrangement will remain unchanged.

The platform behind the deal

In earlier reporting on the Katalyst-e4n partnership, CRN described a platform intended to grow through acquisitions and shared operational capabilities. Executives told the publication they planned investments in cybersecurity, automation and AI-enabled workflows.

That reporting provides background on the strategy; it does not independently confirm today’s acquisition. The new deal extends that strategy into customer groups managing specialized infrastructure and technology operations.

For customers, the immediate operational questions concern service ownership and escalation paths as the businesses integrate. The announcement does not establish that a larger provider will automatically deliver better security outcomes or lower costs.
