Cat Wu said Nov. 4 that she is joining OpenAI to lead product management for its Core Products team, bringing a former Claude Code product leader to a senior role at Anthropic’s rival.
In her public announcement, Wu said she would work with Tibo Sottiaux and OpenAI’s product-management team. She described an ambition to build agents that support individuals and teams while keeping users in control.
A move between AI competitors
Business Insider reported that Wu had left Anthropic the previous week and identified her as Claude Code’s former product leader. The publication also reported that she had worked as a partner at Index Ventures before Anthropic.
The move transfers product-leadership experience between two developers of competing AI tools. It does not by itself establish a change in either company’s product strategy or customer adoption.
The announced remit has limits
Wu’s stated role is product management for Core Products, not an exclusive Codex assignment. Her announcement gives no start date or specific product-release schedule.
For enterprise customers, the confirmed development is a leadership move rather than a change to available services. Whether it translates into different product priorities, implementation support or commercial results remains to be demonstrated.
