The Browser Company announced on Oct. 22, 2026, that Arc will stop working on macOS and Windows on Dec. 22, setting a deadline for users to move their browser data. New Arc account creation ended with the announcement.

The company’s official notice says existing desktop users can continue using Arc, with basic updates, until the cutoff. Arc accounts will then be deactivated, and associated personal data deleted within 30 days.

Mobile changes begin earlier

On Nov. 23, Arc Search on iOS and Android will lose its AI features, sign-in and tab synchronization. The notice says a limited iOS browser will remain usable. The Android app is scheduled for full deprecation on Dec. 22, including removal from Google Play and installed devices.

TechCrunch reported the shutdown Thursday. The company is directing users toward Dia, where it says its engineering and security work will be concentrated.

A migration deadline, not an immediate outage

The notice provides tab-export instructions and describes importing Arc data into Dia before Dec. 22. Users choosing another browser should distinguish a saved list of links from a complete migration of passwords, extensions and settings.

For teams using Arc in daily work, the immediate consequence is a scheduled software transition. Checking required accounts, saved work and replacement-browser behavior before the cutoff is separate from the vendor’s claim that migration is easy.

The announcement does not say desktop Arc has already stopped functioning. It establishes future access and data deadlines that users can plan around now.
