Sandvik completed its acquisition of ThoroughTec Simulation on Nov. 3, 2026, bringing a mining-equipment training business into its Parts and Services division. The closing moves the transaction from an agreement to a completed change of ownership.
In its completion announcement, Sandvik said the Durban, South Africa-based company has more than 200 employees and a sales and support network serving mining customers. ThoroughTec generated approximately 170 million Swedish kronor in revenue in 2025, according to Sandvik.
Training joins the aftermarket business
The acquired business supplies equipment simulators and simulator-based training. It will be reported within Parts and Services, part of Sandvik’s Mining business area, rather than as a new standalone reporting segment.
When the agreement was announced Feb. 12, Sandvik described ThoroughTec’s simulators as compatible with equipment from different original manufacturers. It also identified a training-management system and outlined plans to combine simulation with its own digital information about machine performance.
The parties said then that they would not disclose the purchase price. Sandvik’s latest announcement does not provide a transaction value.
For mining operators, the commercial consequence is the addition of training technology to an equipment supplier’s aftermarket portfolio. Sandvik expects the acquisition to increase its EBITA margin, but that remains a company expectation rather than a reported post-acquisition result. The closing announcement does not establish that a combined training offering has already produced measurable operating improvements for customers.
