ADNOC signed a multiyear partnership with OpenAI and G42 on Nov. 2, 2026, to develop AI capabilities connecting operational, capital and commercial decisions across the energy company’s business.
The ADNOC announcement identifies two initial applications: integrated planning for oil-field development and analysis linking production decisions with the commercial value of crude oil. These are intended uses of the partnership, not independently verified operating results.
Connecting industrial decisions
ADNOC said the partners will combine OpenAI Frontier and its models with the company’s industrial data, deploying the capability on G42 infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates. Human experts will retain oversight of consequential decisions, according to the company.
The business implication is a proposed connection between workflows that can otherwise be assessed separately: reservoir development, facilities, capital requirements and commercial choices. Signing the agreement does not establish that the new system has already improved planning accuracy or generated financial returns.
Part of a wider Abu Dhabi program
The Abu Dhabi Media Office separately confirmed the energy agreement, naming G42 subsidiary Inception42 as a participant. It said the partnership would use OpenAI models with inference infrastructure located in the UAE.
The office described four agreements spanning energy, government and investment, alongside a five-year OpenAI-Inception42 agreement supporting AI adoption in government, enterprise and education. That five-year term should not be treated as the disclosed duration of ADNOC’s separately described multiyear partnership.
For enterprise leaders, the distinction is between committing to an integrated AI program and demonstrating its performance. The announcements establish the partnership and its intended architecture, not a guarantee of productivity, security or savings.
