FedEx Freight forecast holiday-quarter adjusted earnings above analysts’ estimates Oct. 29, 2026, as the newly independent carrier reported higher revenue and outlined its outlook for freight demand and pricing.

The company expects adjusted diluted earnings of 65 cents to 75 cents a share for the three months ending Dec. 31. Reuters reported that analysts expected 53 cents. The forecast excludes spin-off costs and retirement-plan mark-to-market adjustments; it is not a GAAP earnings forecast.

Separate the reporting periods

FedEx Freight’s release covers a one-time four-month period, June through September, as it moves to calendar-year reporting following its separation from FedEx. That period is different from the three-month September quarter.

For the four months, revenue rose 9.2% to $3.3 billion. Operating income fell 6.1% to $383 million, while adjusted operating income increased 16.4% to $510 million. The adjusted measure excludes spin-off costs.

Reuters separately reported September-quarter revenue of $2.44 billion, up 8%, and adjusted earnings of $1.49 a share, above the $1.36 analyst estimate.

Pricing and fuel affect the picture

The company said four-month revenue benefited from fuel surcharges, heavier shipments and an additional operating day, partly offset by softer volumes. Average daily shipments declined 1.4% over that period.

For the December quarter, FedEx Freight forecast revenue of $2.30 billion to $2.37 billion. Its expectations depend on the economic outlook and fuel prices, rather than representing completed shipments or guaranteed results.

For businesses buying freight services, the distinction is practical: higher carrier revenue can reflect fuel and shipment mix as well as stronger demand.
