Pinterest reported Oct. 29 that third-quarter revenue increased 12% to $1.174 billion as its audience reached a record 661 million monthly active users, giving advertisers a larger platform footprint but uneven regional monetization.

Revenue missed analyst expectations of $1.21 billion, Investing.com reported. Adjusted earnings were 46 cents a share, compared with a consensus estimate of 49 cents.

Audience growth and profit diverge

The company earnings release said monthly active users increased 10% from a year earlier. For the quarter ended Sept. 30, net income under generally accepted accounting principles fell 77% to $21.5 million, while adjusted EBITDA rose 11% to $339.2 million. The adjusted EBITDA margin remained at 29%, unchanged from a year earlier. Those are different accounting measures, not interchangeable statements of profit.

U.S. and Canada revenue increased 14% to $894 million. European revenue was flat at $193 million, and average revenue per user in Europe declined 7% to $1.21.

Holiday-quarter growth outlook

Pinterest forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $1.425 billion to $1.475 billion, representing growth of 8% to 12%. The range assumes a modest currency headwind and remains a forecast rather than completed holiday sales.

For media buyers, audience scale and the platform’s revenue trends provide business context, not proof of campaign effectiveness. A larger monthly user count does not establish incremental purchases, conversion quality or return on advertising spending for a particular advertiser.
