Netflix lowered its 2026 advertising revenue forecast to about $2.7 billion from approximately $3 billion on Oct. 20, 2026, citing slower-than-expected rollout of some advertising product capabilities. The revision shows how execution of its ad technology is affecting a growing revenue stream alongside subscriptions.
In its third-quarter shareholder letter, Netflix reported revenue of $12.874 billion, up 11.8% from a year earlier. Its operating margin rose to 34.6% from 28.2%, with the company attributing the better-than-forecast margin primarily to expense timing.
Annual advertising expectations narrow
The Desk also reported the lower advertising outlook and said Netflix did not disclose quarterly advertising sales. The annual forecast should not be confused with revenue already earned.
Netflix now expects full-year total revenue of $51.1 billion and an operating margin of 31.5%. It said subscription revenue growth had exceeded its expectations, partly offsetting the advertising shortfall.
Fourth-quarter figures remain forecasts
The company projects fourth-quarter revenue of $13.442 billion and an operating margin of 26%. Those figures describe the coming quarter, not the results just reported.
For advertisers and media partners, the business issue is the pace at which Netflix turns its audience into an expanded advertising offering. The results establish a revised timetable for revenue expectations; they do not independently establish future campaign performance or advertiser returns.
The distinction matters when evaluating the company’s two revenue streams: stronger subscription performance can coexist with a lower advertising target. Neither measure should be used as a substitute for the other.
