Estée Lauder Companies raised its fiscal 2027 outlook Nov. 2 after first-quarter sales increased 7% and operating profitability improved, giving the beauty group more room to fund consumer-facing investment during its restructuring.

Sales for the quarter ended Sept. 30 reached $3.715 billion, up from $3.481 billion a year earlier. Growth was 6% on the company’s organic measure. Reported operating income rose to $408 million from $169 million, while the operating margin increased to 11% from 4.9%.

Investment rises alongside margins

The company said consumer-facing investment increased 8%. Its definition includes selling, advertising and promotional expenses, cooperative advertising and store operating costs, rather than advertising alone.

Management attributed margin improvement to factors including operational efficiencies, sales leverage and pricing. The results do not isolate the contribution of any individual campaign to sales or profit.

A higher full-year outlook

Estée Lauder now projects fiscal 2027 organic sales growth of 4% to 5.5% and an adjusted operating margin of 12.9% to 13.7%. Those are forecasts, not achieved full-year results.

In August, the company had projected organic growth of 3% to 5% and an adjusted operating margin of 12.7% to 13.5%. Its fiscal 2026 release also described operational savings as a way to support reinvestment in consumer-facing activities.

The new quarter provides evidence that sales and margins can improve while that spending increases. It does not establish that every brand or channel is improving at the same rate, or that the revised annual targets are guaranteed.
