The Estée Lauder Companies said Monday, Sept. 14, that it will deploy Profound’s AI-visibility platform across its global brand portfolio, turning generative-engine optimization from an isolated marketing experiment into a centralized operating capability.

The beauty group said the partnership will give its teams a unified view of when and how brands are represented across ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI assistants. It plans to use the findings to improve product pages, blogs, YouTube content, ingredient information, claims and benefits so automated systems can interpret them more accurately. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Perfumer & Flavorist independently reported the global portfolio scope and described the move as evidence that AI visibility is shifting from an experimental tactic toward an enterprise marketing capability.

AI discovery becomes a portfolio-level discipline

Estée Lauder sells products in roughly 150 countries and territories across brands including Clinique, M·A·C, La Mer, Jo Malone London, The Ordinary and Tom Ford Beauty. Centralizing AI-representation data could reduce duplicated work across those businesses and give teams a common way to identify missing or inconsistent information.

The deployment fits a broader transformation program. In a September Think with Google interview, Estée Lauder’s marketing leadership discussed AI-supported personalization, conversational product discovery and closer alignment between marketing investment and financial outcomes.

Visibility software cannot guarantee that an assistant will recommend a brand. Models, retrieval systems and citations change, and the same product may appear differently across markets and queries. The operational value will depend on whether teams can diagnose those differences and make accurate, supportable improvements without overstating product claims.

Why it matters

Consumers increasingly ask AI systems to compare products and narrow choices before they visit a retailer or brand site. That makes machine-readable product information, independent authority and factual consistency part of the customer-acquisition system, not merely an SEO task.

For marketing leaders, Estée Lauder’s move offers a practical model: establish a portfolio baseline, assign ownership for corrections, separate measurement from optimization and connect AI visibility to referral traffic and conversion. The company has not disclosed performance targets, so the next test is whether the program produces measurable gains rather than another reporting dashboard.
