DIA said Nov. 5, 2026, it agreed to sell its Argentine supermarket business to Dorinka, expecting approximately $53.8 million in total proceeds at closing. The planned withdrawal would concentrate the Spanish retailer’s operations in Spain.

The company’s filing with Spain’s securities regulator covers the entire share capital of DIA Argentina. Closing is expected Nov. 12. DIA said it would inform the market when the transaction has completed.

Proceeds include more than shares

The total comprises $40 million for the shares, $9 million paid upfront for the first three years of an Argentine trademark license and approximately $4.8 million in intra-group receivables. The headline proceeds are therefore not solely the equity purchase price.

DIA separately estimates a negative accounting impact of 100 million euros from the difference between its investment’s book value and the agreed sale price. That estimate is distinct from the cash it expects to receive.

A narrower geographic focus

Reuters reported that the agreement follows DIA’s withdrawal from Brazil and would complete its retreat from Latin America. The report described currency depreciation and weak Argentine consumer demand as pressures on the business.

DIA says it intends to reinvest the proceeds in expansion in Spain. That is the company’s stated use of the money, not a completed investment or a forecast of returns.
