Francis deSouza officially takes over as chief executive of Scale AI on Monday, beginning a new leadership phase for one of the companies most closely associated with the data infrastructure behind advanced artificial intelligence.
Scale announced deSouza’s appointment on July 30, with an effective date of Aug. 10. He succeeds interim CEO Jason Droege, who had led the company since June 2025 and will remain involved during the transition. Scale said deSouza will oversee growth across both its data and applications businesses.
Reuters reported that deSouza brings three decades of enterprise technology experience. Scale founder Alexandr Wang now serves as Meta’s chief AI officer, while Scale continues to sell data and AI application services to enterprises and governments.
The transition comes as AI infrastructure companies increasingly try to move up the value chain. Data labeling and model evaluation remain central businesses, but customers are also looking for systems that help deploy AI into actual workflows.

Scale’s next phase will test whether a company built around AI data infrastructure can become a broader enterprise AI platform without losing the specialized role that made it strategically important in the first place.
