Barratt Redrow reported Nov. 4, 2026, that home completions fell 12.1% in the first 17 weeks of its financial year, while weaker underlying private bookings underscored the challenge of sustaining construction activity amid affordability pressure.

The British homebuilder completed 3,223 homes, including joint ventures, in the period ending Oct. 25, compared with 3,665 a year earlier. It left its full-year guidance unchanged.

Rental deals change the sales picture

The underlying private reservation rate fell to 0.53 homes per sales outlet per week from 0.57. However, private rental sector and other multi-unit transactions contributed another 0.06, taking the total private reservation rate to 0.59, above last year’s 0.57.

The distinction matters operationally: a higher headline booking rate does not mean demand from individual buyers has strengthened. Reuters also reported the decline in completions and underlying bookings.

The forward order book totaled 11,086 homes valued at about 3.32 billion pounds. The company was 56% forward sold against expected private completions for fiscal 2027, down from 60% at the same stage a year earlier.

Barratt Redrow said it would concentrate on cost efficiencies, selective land investment and control of work in progress. For suppliers and construction partners, reservations, contracted future work and completed homes describe different stages of activity. The update therefore calls for attention to the mix of orders rather than treating one sales indicator as a complete measure of demand.
